Keep Australia Beautiful Judges Take to the Beaches
The Keep Australia Beautiful 2004 Clean Beach Challenge, now in its fourth year, moves into top gear next week (September 20-24), when the Challenge Judges cast a discerning eye over the 167 New South Wales beaches nominated for consideration this year.
The Judges will be looking at overall entries as well as local projects undertaken by community groups who have entered the special categories* section of the awards.
Keep Australia Beautiful Chair, the Hon. Pam Allan MP, said the hotly contested special categories section of the Clean Beach Challenge focussed on issues such as heritage and nature conservation projects, community-based programs, environmental initiatives and beach beautification efforts."The Clean Beach Challenge gives local communities a chance to measure the condition of their local beach against those in other parts of the state, "Ms Allan said.Keep Australia Beautiful Chief Executive, Matthew Taylor, said the Judges' findings help decide which beach will win the coveted title of New South Wales' Cleanest Beach. Last year's winner was Black Head Beach, east of Taree."Keep Australia Beautiful expects the competition between beaches to be as strong as ever but our Judges are looking for that outstanding beach which has the edge' over the rest."The Clean Beach Challenge is more than a beach beauty competition. It recognises the dedicated efforts of thousands of volunteers, councils and Surf Lifesaving Clubs whose passion for their beach helps manage and protect one of this state's most precious resources. It's about community involvement and community pride. No other program in New South Wales gathers together such a diverse group of people for a common purpose," Mr Taylor said. For Further Media Information Please Contact: Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive, Keep Australia Beautiful 02 9633 3380 or 0409 463 227
