| Tracing the family name back, is complicated by the fact that Johannes Mul, (born 26 September, 1823, in Ameiden) was the apparently, bastard son, of Johanna Mul, (born in Sluipwijk, 25 Feb 1791).
So far, no information on the name of the father of Johannes. So Johannes was registered in his mother's last name, as was his sister, Elisabeth

(From Johanna backwards, my information traces back through her father and the Mul family.)Johanna later married Gerrit Spruyt (Spruit) and they had three more children. Pieter Spruyt, from this marriage, was witness at the wedding of his half-brother, Johannes and vice-versa. (Both family crests have been sent to me as belonging to the Mul family.)

"De naam komt voor in Moordrecht rond 1570. Er woonde daar een Pieter Adriaansz Mul. Ongeveer in diezelfde tijd woonde in Gouda Pieter Cornelisz Mul, notaris en secretaris van Bloemendaal (even buiten Gouda gelegen). Hij schreef zijn naam (b.v. op zijn notariszegel) als 'van Mul' en ook wel 'Mull'."
